Located in Lakewood's historic Colonial Center and opened in October, 2006, this local History Museum brings to life area history from its prehistoric past to the present time through displays of artifacts, photos, maps, documents, and memorabilia. Begin your walk into history with an illustrated timeline of local people, places, and events highlighted by photos, maps, and historic documents. Exhibits feature a homestead cabin, post office, businesses, schools, and more. Rotating and traveling displays change quarterly to present an ever changing scene for our visitors.
It's an easy visit to fit in with an afternoon of shopping or a lunch hour or for exploring children. Call or e-mail the museum for planning assistance with group tours and to learn about special events and programs.
A museum's ability to share history, tell stories, preserve artifacts and create exhibits depends on the generosity of members, friends and the community at large. If you have stories or items related to Lakewood history, please contact us or drop by during our hours of operation.
As we trace the footsteps and gather the stories of those who came before us, we invite you to join the Society as a member and active volunteer to help us capture and preserve our unique community stories … because our history matters.
